Frequently Asked Questions

Oak frame buildings offer several benefits over brick buildings, including:

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Oak frames provide a timeless, rustic charm.
  • Flexibility in Design: Oak frames allow for more open and flexible interior spaces.
  • Sustainability: Oak is a renewable resource and has a lower environmental impact.
  • Thermal Efficiency: Oak has natural insulating properties, enhancing energy efficiency.

Oak frame buildings are highly environmentally friendly. Oak is a sustainable material, and our sourcing practices ensure that we use timber from responsibly managed forests. All our supplying sawmills are supplying FSC accredited timber. Additionally, oak’s longevity reduces the need for frequent replacements, making it a sustainable building choice.

Oak frames can sometimes become stained or marked. There are many reasons for this, some are a by product of the construction and manufacturing process whilst others will occur naturally over time. Oak mainly occurs during the construction phase of a project as it is near impossible for workers not to transfer some debris and dirt onto the frame whilst other works such as plastering, painting and flooring takes place. The use of ferrous fixings will also inevitably cause staining over time. The other is the naturally occurring dark stains found on the outside of the oak frame as the natural tannins within the oak run out as the timber dries and is in contact with the natural environment. Both are common and are easily remedied once all work is finished on site. The three most common cleaning methods are using Oxalic Acid, sandblasting and the light sanding. For more information on each method and for advise on the most appropriate course of action for your project please get in touch with once of the team.

Oak framed buildings are renowned for their longevity. With proper care and maintenance, they can last for centuries. The natural properties of oak, combined with expert craftsmanship, ensure a durable and lasting structure.

Oak framed buildings are naturally durable and resistant to pests. However, for additional protection, we can apply treatments that enhance the wood’s resistance to moisture and decay. Regular maintenance, such as oiling or staining, can also help preserve the wood’s appearance and longevity.
